Seminyak in Bali continues to be a very popular tourist destination probably most famous for it’s numerous beach clubs. Now I know I’ve made my views on Bali clear before but I still have great memories of my time there. Whilst Seminyak won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, it certainly doesn’t mean that the foodie scene isn’t worth checking out. Not as good as Ubud in my opinion but at least one of these restaurants remains in my overall top 10. Here’s my round up of the best places to eat in Seminyak to help you if you do plan on visiting!
Honey. Butter. Fried. Chicken. One of the most sensational things I have ever eaten. For 49k IDR, just a mere £2.75, you too can sample what is simply one of my favourite dishes ever.
Atlas Kitchen is number 13 out of 510 restaurants on Tripadvisor and I’m confident it will leave you wanting more. We shared three main dishes for tea; the honey butter fried chicken I just casually mentioned above as well as the crispy roast pork belly platter and Malaysian curry with roti. If you’re spending any amount of time in Seminyak, please go here and remind me of how good it is.
The Fat Turtle
If you’re after all day breakfasts, The Fat Turtle is where you need to be heading. Their motto is “All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast.” The red velvet pancakes were brilliant as was their take on the eggs benedict with pulled pork and pickled chilli. I think that might have been my first time ever trying hollandaise sauce too! The cafe isn’t that big so you may struggle to get a table but just keep going back until you get in as it’s definitely worth it.
The presentation skills are pretty impressive here! It’s probably become a Bali cliche now but if you fancy getting your name spelt out in coconut flakes, this is the place for you. It does all your usual ‘clean eats’ breakfast bowls filled with acai berries, chia seeds and raw organic cacao that have come straight out of Byron Bay. If that isn’t for you, the wraps are delicious and filling instead!
Now you’ve probably guessed from the name that the chef at Clean Canteen aims to use the best ingredients; all fresh and organic. There is something for everyone here no matter what your dietary requirements and you can be certain that the food will not let you down!
There is no way Mad Pops couldn’t be on a list of the best places to eat in Seminyak. Unlike most places, I found this one through Instagram with loads of photos of these vegan ice creams popping up with a classic neon sign in the background. The pictures don’t do these ice creams any justice. Now I’m not vegan at all, far from it, and wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to eat vegan food but, trust me on this one, I think the ice cream here is close to the best I’ve ever tasted. My flavour of choice is always salted caramel and it did not disappoint at all.
Hanks Pizza was a great find if I do say so myself. A rock bar with red neon lighting serving up great pizzas and even better tunes. I just kept it simple with a pepperoni pizza and some chilli oil which was right up my street. The names of the pizzas were a little cheesy (please pardon the pun) with such classics as Axl, Dylan and Keith. I can forgive this though as the tunes were brilliant with a mid-2000’s pop punk vibe.
This roadside hole in the wall serves up some amazing baos by giving them the burger treatment. Filled with fried chicken or pork belly, these were so good (even better with a few beers) we went back more than once! The prices are reasonable and I’ve read that since I visited the whole place has been renovated with a 60’s cinema vibe going on. Definitely worth visiting.
If you’re heading to Seminyak anytime soon, hopefully this post will have helped you think of a few extra places to put on your list. Let me know if you do go on to visit any of these in the comments below as I’d love to know your thoughts too.
