    2018: A Year in Review

Well I can’t believe we’re here with only a few days left of 2018! I’m not going to lie but the last year, up until August at least, has been my favourite so far. The year started with fireworks in Sydney Harbour followed by a road trip half way around Australia and a quick stint in Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Since August, I’m afraid there’s not really been anything of note. It took far longer to settle back to the English way of life than I thought. I’m not actually sure that I have settled back in. I’ve managed to find a desk job (with flexitime) which is helping build…

The Long Way Home: Bangkok, Thailand

Well, this is it. Our last stop in ten months of travel. We’ve lived in Melbourne and #vanlifed around Australia before flying to Bali, Singapore, Phuket and Chiang Mai. In a week, we will be back in England with not a clue on where we go from here. The only way to end this was with seven nights in the City of Angels; Bangkok. This city really causes a divide between people; some people absolutely love it whilst others hate it. We booked six nights at the Akara Hotel, which is close to the shopping district, before our final night at the Tower Club at Lebua, the hotel from the…

The Long Way Home: Chiang Mai, Thailand

Last time out we arrived into our fourth country, Thailand, for a relaxing week on the island of Phuket. After recuperating, we were both ready to make our way north to Chiang Mai for four nights. Chiang Mai is Thailand’s second largest city and lies next to the country’s tallest mountains. Before Thailand formed, Chiang Mai was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom for approximately 500 years. When planning our journey home, we decided to visit here for three reasons; the night markets, the temples and the elephants. The Flight I don’t normally get nervous when it comes to flying but, after that plane disappeared from Kuala Lumpar, I haven’t…

The Long Way Home: Phuket, Thailand

Following on from our amazing stay in Singapore, we needed a bit of a break. Somewhere to relax with little exploring to be done. With that in mind, we’d booked to stay in the resort of Kata Beach on the island of Phuket in Thailand. I’ve been wanting to visit Thailand for a long time mostly for the food but also the beaches and Bangkok. Before we really looked into Phuket, I’d always thought that it was on Phuket where the towering cliffs and shimmering sands were but it turns out they’re on a separate island, Koh Phi Phi. Phuket’s reputation comes from it’s main town of Patong Beach where…

    Onwards: Bali, Singapore & Thailand

Well, just like the football, we’re coming home!  As you read this, if everything goes to plan, we’ll be sat on a plane heading to our next destination. Whilst I can’t wait to get home to the UK, we didn’t want to end the trip on a bad note so we’re taking the long way.  So, for the next month and a bit, we’re heading to Ubud and Seminyak in Bali, then Singapore (hello Marina Bay Sands!) followed by Phuket, Chiang Mai and Bangkok in Thailand.  For some reason however, I’m nervous.  Like really nervous.  I think it’s because I’m heading outside of my comfort zone again but I guess…
