Hands up if you’ve ever been to Lincoln? Nope, didn’t think many of you had! For some reason, travellers don’t seem to visit Lincoln yet the city is up there with the best of them.
Lincoln began many years ago as a Roman town and has been seen as an important settlement throughout history. If you decide to visit Lincoln, you’ll struggle to miss the imposing castle and cathedral looking over the city. The city is absolutely beautiful. Of course, there are areas that are undergoing regeneration and the high street is just like everywhere else, but it’s certainly worth a weekend of your time.
My favourite area is from the Bailgate with Steep Hill (which was voted Britain’s best street in 2012) and Castle Square down to Clasketgate. You’ll find plenty of bars and restaurants as well as boutique shops.
I no longer live there but I visit Lincoln regularly and it always makes me happy; it is my home. Hopefully these ten photos will inspire you to visit Lincoln as soon as possible. For more information on visiting, the official tourist board has plenty of information!
